Top 10 Christmas Movies You Can Watch Until Christmas - Baran Bener

10. The Santa Clause, 1994

When a man accidentally kills Santa Claus at the beginning of a movie you know it is going to be good, he is expected to take his place. Even though the man refuses at first his hair starts to turn white and his beard and belly grow during the night. He is forced upon the job of Santa, even if it is a little too dark for a family movie this is one of the best christmas movies out there with a dark twist.

9 and 8.  Miracle on 34th Street, 1994, 1947

Whether you consider this film a heart-warming gem or an insult to the 1947 original might depend on which version you grew up with, the premise of a lawyer and a little girl that must prove that a man claiming to be Santa Claus is pretty interesting.

7. The Holiday, 2006

Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other's countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love. It is a warm and witty easy to watch movie with a strange but sweet subplot, also Jude Law is in it which is always a win.

6. Happy Christmas, 2014

This movie is entirely improvised and has an extremely low budget, gets the title for the most underrated Christmas movie, the movie looks cheap is the most common criticism for this movie but I think it adds to the movie's rawness instead of taking anything from it.

Bonus Pick: 6.5 Love Actually, 2003

Even if Love Actually is flawed, there is far too much to enjoy in this ensemble romcom to write it off, even if this is not Alan Rickman's best performance it is still his most ambitious.

5. Elf, 2003

Elf is Will Ferell at his best, and he manages to carry each scene he is in, in this amazing and ludicrous movie about an elf who is an outcast and finds out he is a human and travels to new york to find his real father.

4. Home Alone, 1990

No, this is not number one, that's how many amazing Christmas movies there are out there. When his family accidentally leaves on holiday without him, inserting the Joe Pesci cue than  some of the most inventive and surprisingly violent, self-defence techniques you’ve ever seen will be on the screen by a child.

3. Die Hard, 1988

This would have been a great number one pick, anyways, Die Hard is an amazing action filled isolation themed christmas movie starring Bruce Willis, even though it is argued a lot that this is not a Christmas movie, Bruce Willis himself thinks it is not, I think that it is due to the fact that it being christmas time is essential to the plot of the movie.

2.  It’s a Wonderful Life, 1946

Its a wonderful life admittedly, is not that wonderful like the title suggest In fact, this tale of a man driven to the brink of suicide, the ending, the ending of this movie is what makes this movie a classic, the whole movie is beautiful, charming, fun and filled with the christmas spirit.

1. The Snowman, 1982

This 26 minute short movie is one of the best pieces of media I have seen in my life, it was first broadcast on the then fledgling Channel 4 in 1982 and then annually ever since, the animation and the style of this movie is so unique and crisp that it is almost cozy. It is the best christmas movie ever made.
