Everything has been perfect since the beginning. They used to meet at a cafe after a long school day. He would ask:

”How was your day?”

”Good, I guess.”

”There’s gotta be more. C’mon.”

Then, she would yap while he just smiles. She wouldn’t usually share many details with anyone but him. His smile had something that made her feel comfortable around. She used to go to watch him play basketball right after they studied together. They used to do everything together. He was everything to her, and she was everything to him until she wasn’t anymore.

She talked to herself, “What could be the reason behind this change?”. He used to love me and care for me, but what about now? Why was he acting like that? When I told him we could meet after school, he would get excited. When I told him I failed one of my exams, he would be the first one to get me some flowers and try to make me calm. When I told him about my inflated dreams, he was my biggest supporter. I felt loved. For a while…”

No. Nothing has changed about him. She only realized she hadn’t got any feelings for him anymore. He actually never cared about her exams, stories, dreams, or even her feelings. She loved him so much that she wanted him to care. He walked through the door of the cafe they used to meet in every day. His asking, “How was your day?” confirmed what she was thinking. She used to be fired up about talking about her day, mentioning every single unimportant detail, but now she just wanted to go home and not talk about it at all. At least, not with him. Now she didn’t love him enough anymore, which made her feel annoyed by even such a basic question.

He hasn’t changed; she has. Her feelings have changed. She was just too in love to see the truth about him, and when she stopped loving him, he just fell into disgrace for her.
